Purpose & Mission

"We believe the future of America and the world rests in our generation’s commitment and ability as gatekeepers of the future to invest in our children. To serve and protect children we must also protect women, and families."

The Foundation is dedicated to providing health, education, social services, advocacy and lobbying on behalf of children, women and families, to make tomorrow better than today for future generations.

About Us

The Merlin Foundation was established in 1993 as a 501 (c)(3) public supported nonprofit charity to provide assistance to victims of child abuse, rape, and domestic violence in the Ozark Mountain region of Northwest Arkansas.

During the past ten years, the Foundation has created several alliances in cooperation with other nonprofit organizations and governmental agencies to enhance the services to the victims of these tragic crimes. In September of 2000, Ozark Rape Crisis Center took over the operation of all rape crisis response in the region. In August of 1999, Harmony House, Inc. "Shelter Systems" took over the operations for domestic violence victims in the county. In December of 2002, Harmony House, Inc. ceased operations. Shelter services were taken over by the "Sanctuary", of Harrison, and  "Project for Victims of Family Violence", of Fayetteville. In 2003, victim advocacy services were provided by "St. John's Hospital", of Berryville. A cooperative effort by all to support those in need.

This has allowed the Foundation to re-focus its' full efforts on the children in the region and to expand the policy center to a national level while honoring its commitment to serve the victims of both sexual assault and domestic violence in the region. Serving and advocating for children, coupled with local human service programs, has become the sole mission of the Foundation with a special focus on the family.

The Foundation has two major divisions. Community Services and Public Policy & Advocacy.

Children's Advocacy Center, "Grandma's House".

Located in Green Forest, Arkansas the CAC is one of 14 Children's Advocacy Centers in Arkansas operated in compliance with the standards of the National Children's Alliance and the State serving abused and neglected children.

Drug Endangered Children's Unit

The Children's Advocacy Center and the Foundation operates the only Drug Endangered Children's Unit in Arkansas. This rapid response unit is called to the scene of "Meth Lab's" as soon as Law Enforcement has the area secure. Any children found in the "Lab" area are picked up, transported to the hospital, decontaminated and given complete medical exams. They are then transported to "Grandma's House" for care while waiting for placement into Foster Care. In 2010 this unit was reassigned within the organization. (Click Here)

Center For Children and Public Policy

Located in South Carroll County, Arkansas this division provides research, advocacy, and public policy assistance to governmental agencies and public institutions on behalf of children.

We are a nationwide resource for policy makers on children's issues involving abuse and/or neglect.

Community Services - Family Support Center

In addition to the above, the Foundation maintains a local Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Team, Child Fatality Review Team, Parenting Classes, "Baby Think it Over", a teen-pregnancy prevention program, numerous training programs and a comprehensive breast care and health project covering women in both Carroll and Madison Counties. These services are provided by our "Family Support Center", located in Green Forest, AR.

For several years, the Foundation has worked with other specialized nonprofit organizations to establish a Domestic Violence Shelter and Rape Crisis Response Team within the County. These operations are now under the sole operation and control of those charities. We are proud to have been a catalyst for these needed services.

In 2009 the Foundation formed a new division to support out Mission using targeted media to address the needs of the people we serve. To get more information (Click Here)
